2001
Smarsh was founded in Brooklyn, New York. Founder, Stephen Marsh, believed that the financial industry needed a better way to archive, store, and monitor its data in order to comply with increasingly tight regulations. In 2004, Smarsh relocated its corporate headquarters to Portland, Oregon. Smarsh has expanded its solution using the same technology to meet the needs of clients across a wide range of industries.
2008 - Present
Smarsh was first named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing companies in America in 2008 - a status it has maintained for 11 years and counting. The company also made the Deloitte Fast 500 list from 2009 through 2015. Smarsh has received a host of other awards including the Oregon Technology Award, Boston Product Excellence Award, KM World: Trend-Setting Products Award, Wealth Management Industry Award, Financial Technology Forum News Award and many more. In addition to being recognised as a market leader by both Gartner and Forrester, Smarsh has earned 'Top Player' status in the Radicati Group, Cloud Information Archiving Report each year since 2014.
2010
Smarsh added new capabilities to its archiving platform in 2010, including Supervision capabilities to enhance its customers' ability to meet compliance requirements and to get the most out of the data they were archiving. The company has continued to innovate by adding further capabilities and supporting new content types as they emerge to keep up with latest trends. Connected Capture now supports over 80 different communication channels and this number continues to grow.
2015
In 2015, Smarsh was named a leader in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Information Archiving, a position it has held and improved on each year since then.
2015
In 2015, Smarsh became the first archiving vendor to develop relationships with leading mobile carriers to enable direct capture of text messages from mobile devices, which was key to the needs of customers in regulated industries. Smarsh strengthened its mobile and voice offerings with the acquisitions of MobileGuard in 2016 and Cognia in 2017.
2019
Smarsh and Actiance combined in 2018, creating the leading, pure-play archiving provider. Two companies with legacies of innovation complemented each other well, and their individual award-winning solution sets combined together to create The Connected Suite. With on-prem and cloud capture solutions, as well as multi-tenant and private, single-tenant archiving options, Smarsh can meet the needs of companies ranging from the world’s largest banks and government agencies to single-office broker-dealers.
